Our Wants vs. Our Needs: 12 Creative Illustrations

Our Wants vs Our Needs

Have you ever stopped to think about how much junk you have in your life that you don’t need? As much as I try to keep my own life very simple, even right now as I look around this room, I see tons of things that if they were suddenly gone, I wouldn’t miss them one single bit. We live in an “I want more more more world” these days, but how much of that stuff do we actually need?

The line between wants and needs can even get blurry. My mother would say that I don’t need my iPhone, but I think it’s a necessity I couldn’t live without. Here in the United States, I think food is another good example. Most people here probably need half of the food they eat; yet they want twice as much. It’s all just a mindset I think.

Artist Erin Hanson, the blogger behind Recovering Lazyholic, took an introspective look into her own life and created a series of illustrations showing the contrast between what she wants and what she needs. These are adorable, and I can relate to a lot of them. My favorite one is how we need more sunshine in our lives. That is true on so many different levels. Great job Erin!
