For Workaholics: A Keyboard Design With A Lunch Bowl Built In

Do you get to take a lunch break every day when you’re at work? I don’t. Well, I could, but I often get so wrapped up in whatever I’m doing that I don’t take time to eat until my stomach is growling so much that I’m forced to address the food issue. It’s probably not the healthiest way to live, but it is what it is. I don’t like to interrupt my workflow unless I absolutely have to, yet still there aren’t enough hours in the day. I remember Richard once wrote a few sentences that read, “We have all been there. It’s that moment when you suddenly realize that optimizing yourself is more necessary than anything else that has to be optimized.” That has always stuck with me, and it’s where I am now. Maybe this keyboard design will help.

This reminds me of the Hands-Free Sandwich Holder we featured about a year ago. It’s another goofy design that is intended to help us optimize our schedules. Many times people don’t eat at their desks because there isn’t room for a bowl filled with food, utensils, etc. alongside their keyboard. Now that problem is easily solved. This bowl is built right into the keyboard design itself, so all you have to do is put your lunch in the bowl, plug in this keyboard, and continue working as if nothing happened.

Nah…In reality this keyboard design doesn’t actually exist. Well, it does, but it’s not for sale if that makes sense. Besides, we all know that our keyboards are full of disgustingly gnarly germs, so would we really want our food touching it? C’mon, you weren’t really considering this, were you? It’s just a funny little keyboard design created by Hella Jongerius to make us smile. I put a few more goofy looking keyboards below too. The first one shows what happens when you eat multi-grain bagels over your keyboard every morning. The second one is a keyboard design made as one big s’more. Hmm…Maybe this whole “eating at our desks” thing isn’t such a good idea after all.
