In A Perfect World: Life’s Daily Annoyances Illustrated

Catrina Dulay Ongoing Illustrations

Have you ever had a day when you woke up at the wrong time because the AM/PM got mixed up on your alarm, then you walked to the kitchen only to realize there was no milk to put in your cereal? You reached for your iPhone, but it was out of battery. I haven’t had a day that started out that rocky in a while, but they can happen to the best of us.

It really comes down to the classic half empty/half full argument. Some people look at these things as annoyances, while others see them as simply the things in life that make it interesting. After all, where would the fun be if the weatherman was always right and the copy machine never jammed?

Graphic designer Catrina Dulay created these simple illustrations for an ongoing series she calls “In A Perfect World.” On Toothpaste Frosting she writes, “These are all normal happenings that exist in our imperfect day to day lives… I started in order to celebrate our everyday nuisances.” Just like many people, I can relate to almost all of these, and they brought a smile to my face. I especially like the one about ChapStick. I have never understood why it disappears off our lips, and we have to reapply it so often. I guess some things in life are not meant to be understood.
