Disney & Star Wars Combine To Create Inspiring Advertising

Disney-Star-Wars-Weekend-Advertising

In the almost 20 years that I’ve been in the advertising field, I have had the honor of working on some of what I believe are the best accounts in the world. My two favorites were IKEA and Volkswagen. The work for them was always so much fun, and it literally demanded creativity of the highest levels. Most jobs are fun in advertising, and that is why it is such a great industry to work in. When I saw these advertisements about the Disney Star Wars Weekends, I almost cried. Oh what joy it would have been to create something like this, and you can see the team had a blast working on it.

The advertisements themselves range from Yoda trimming the hedges into Mickey Mouse shapes, to R2-D2 playing with the elevators. The subject of Star Wars is one that conjures up so many images from different moments in our lives, and I still think about taking my children to see Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. I think I was more excited than they were.

What is great about these Disney Star Wars Weekend advertisements are the little videos that the Disney team also created. In them, you see a brainstorming session with Darth Vader that goes a little off track from Disney’s happy factory, but it’s really funny. In the other, we have a prima donna R2-D2 who shows up late for his photography session and then demands time in make-up!

Everything Disney created with this communication really appeals to all ages as you would expect, but it is the tongue-in-cheek humor that comes with it all that makes it so appealing. I actually believe coming up with the ideas would not have been the most difficult part of this process. I truly believe getting the creative teams to stop working on this would have been the ultimate challenge.
