A Bizarrely Creative Headstone Design For Your Inspiration

Creative-Sexy-Headstone-Design-Example

Have you thought about your own headstone design? Are you going to leave that up to someone else to decide? We’ve written a lot about how to prepare for our deaths when it comes to our digital data, and by now, we all know there are services that will send out our final goodbye on all our social media accounts and transfer our personal files to a trusted friend. If we get back to the basics though, what about our headstone? Maybe you will choose to be cremated or put to rest in a mausoleum.

If you choose to be buried the old fashioned way, what kind of headstone design would you pick? You could get fancy and choose an interactive headstone that will add a social media flavor to your headstone via QR codes.

If you want to stick with a traditional headstone that is custom made to fit your personality, you might take inspiration from this very creative and very unusual headstone design below. This has been circulating the Internet for a few years now, but this is the first time I’ve seen it. Apparently it’s a topic of controversy, and there are a lot of people who really don’t like it. I’m not sure why that is. It could be because in this case, it takes the focus away from the husband who is buried there, and it puts the focus on the wife who is the person this headstone represents.

This is the headstone, or gravestone, of Laurence Matheson (1930 – 1987). It’s a marble sculpture called “asleep” that his wife commissioned from artist Peter Schipperheyn. She had this made to express her undying love for her late husband. Mr. Matheson’s unique gravestone is in the Mount Macedon Cemetery of Victoria, Australia. What is your take on this? Do you think it’s a lovely homage by a thoughtful and heartbroken wife, or do you think it’s a disrespectful way to say goodbye? I give it a thumbs up.
