Apparently there is a new trend in photography called projection art. It’s a style that highlights the human body by projecting light containing different images onto the curves of the body itself. It creates a sensual and intoxicating visual, and I definitely like it. About a year ago, light painting was really popular. We featured some light painting sculptures and even published a tutorial about how to get started in light painting. Although this type of photography also uses bright light, it is completely different.
It uses light in strategic way to create the effect of clothes on the body, or even to look like a “person within a person” depending on the image in the light projection itself. As you see below, anything is possible, even projecting superheroes onto a beautiful woman’s back. I love this kind of creativity. It’s classy, romantic, beautiful and very unique.
The geek in me wants to know more about the light projection. What kind of projector is used? Does the light shine on the person first or does the light shine on a wall, bed, couch or whatever, and then the person steps into it and positions her body to achieve the effect? I hope as this trend progresses, we’ll learn more about exactly how it’s done. These particular photographs are from Marc Philbert‘s collection.
