I remember about a week ago, my co-writer and friend, Lindsay Fultz, wrote an article here on Bit Rebels called Twitter Mentions Are The New You’ve Got Mail & Celebrity Autograph. I laughed so hard when I read it because she hit the nail on the head with that one. Even though sometimes we want to play it all cool, on the inside, we completely freak out when we get a tweet from a celebrity, right?

As a matter of fact, my friend Debbie and I even went on to giggle about how when that happens, we spend thirty minutes composing the perfect tweet to send back. We check to be sure our commas are all the right place and that we’ve spelled everything correctly. Of course, Murphy’s Law usually bonks us on the head when we realize later that we typed “your” instead of “you’re” or something dumb like that. It’s all so silly really.

Around a week ago, I got a tweet from @Daniel_Logan. He sent it to two dear friends of mine and me. The reason this tweet was so special is because Daniel Logan played Boba Fett in Star Wars! You know I’m one of the biggest Star Wars fans on the planet, and when I saw this tweet, I immediately started freaking out. After dancing around my desk at least ten times, I immediately hit my DM to share the news with all my Star Wars geek friends. I then tweeted that getting a tweet from Boba Fett was better than getting a tweet from President Obama.

Of course, for social proof, I took a screencap of the tweet (like all of us do, right?) and placed it below for you. I know, I’m a little nuts. It all got me thinking about some of our other favorite characters in movies and television shows where the actors and actresses have their faces covered so we can never really tell who they are. I thought it would be fun to share with you in this post some famous characters and the actors and actresses inside the suits. Enjoy!

Not a single year goes by without some doomsday prophet saying the earth will break apart, and life as we know it will stop. So far nothing has happened, and we get to enjoy the beauty of our blue planet for yet another day, month or year. With all the catastrophes around the world however, who knows when all hell will break loose and global chaos will come to surpass, right? Well relax, there are no signs of global distinction just yet, and there is still a lot of time to check out some of our geeky content here on Bit Rebels. I mean, who doesn’t like to geek it up a little to get the creativity juices flowing?

If you keep worrying about the end of the world though, I think I have the right thing for you. It’s the Apocalypse Tomorrow 2012 Calendar. Yes, there is one, and it is ultimately sexy… from a cartoon perspective. It’s actually a ’50s style pin-up calendar that will certainly get you excited about the different doomsday prophecies. Apparently you will survive anything if you are a sexy girl… or maybe it’s just depicting the fem fashion for your average global destruction event.

The calendar is created by the talented illustrator Andrew Tarusov and will totally catch your attention each morning when you wake up. Nothing gets the adrenaline going like a global disaster I reckon. I have no clue if it is for sale yet, but if you head over to Andrew’s website, you might find out. I don’t read Russian, so I couldn’t tell and I couldn’t find a purchase button or a price either. I am sure that such a fine example of creative thinking will be available for us all soon. They are truly beautiful illustrations and a baller idea for sure.

Enough of the owling in front of the computer! It’s time to get up from that chair and start moving. Put on a good song and start dancing. When you get old, you won’t be able to dance as geeky as you can now, so time is of the essence. I think geeks of today are way too shy to strike a pose and kick some major butt, at least in movies. Maybe it’s because of the music we listen to, or possibly the fact that movie makers have an obscured idea of how a geek really acts. I mean, there are countless examples of how geeks create the hipster moves in movies. Take Napoleon Dynamite for example. That dude created headlines with his performance in the movie with the same name.

For a geek who is not used to dancing, striking a good move might be as foreign as feeling the rays of the daylight straight in your face. It’s a good time to bring out the heavy artillery and put some boost into those feet. If anyone, the Dancing Plague of 1518 can help us all with that. They have created the ultimate dancing posters based on iconic performances throughout movie history that will surely get your partner to join in on the fun.

I am a little surprised however to find that the moves in Grease aren’t represented. Maybe it is because John Travolta once again showed his moves in Pulp Fiction. Either way, they would make for a good addition to this set of posters. Now, let’s start spreading some joy and get some exercise out of it at the same time. God knows we need it sitting in front of our computers as much as we do, right? As always, the question is what dance to start learning first. Hmm…

All I can say is WOW! I looked at this picture (first one below) on Facebook and just kept staring at it, trying to figure out how they could do this on a wall…I thought it was a mural at first. I mean, those people are standing on rock outcrops…aren’t they? But then how come that guy in the middle is so much smaller than than the ones beside him? I just couldn’t figure out how they did this, so I did a little investigating.

Turns out, 3D Joe & Max, the world traveling pavement artists, actually painted over 1100 m of street to create this amazing Reebok Crossfit exercise area. A room-sized 3D takes them about four days, and Guinness gave them just one week to complete this task.

On November 17, this gigantic piece of street art won two Guinness World Records — for the longest and the largest (1160 meters square) 3D street art. Of course, once you find one amazing thing, you have to go see what else is out there. After the Guinness World Record holder below, my next favorite one is the polar bear. If you visit the gallery on their website, you can see the polar bear painting from a different angle, which is kind of cool. Check out some of their awesome works.

Forget all those other iPad covers you’ve been looking at, these are where it’s at. I want all of them. These would make great gifts for your retro geek friends who have birthdays coming up. They are not only cozy and soft, they’ll protect your iPad and keep it safe until you are ready to use it again.

These are made by Etsy artist Geeky Girlfriend who has the Esty shop called MyGeekyBoyfriend. Of course, as you can probably tell by the name, her boyfriend inspired her to make these, and by the looks of it, she’s been very successful with this project. I wonder how long it takes her to make these since they are so detailed.

There is even a pocket on each one for your stylus and ear buds so they can stay safely tucked in under the flap when it’s closed (it closes securely with a magnet). Each one is completely lined and sewn (there are no cheesy iron-ons). She also has these available for Kindles and other tablets. The ear bud pouch is such a nice touch. They are just precious, and there are a lot more in her Etsy store than what I’ve featured here. My favorite is definitely the blue Star Trek design. They sell for between $23-$28 each.

We’ve featured tons of very well done fan-created videos before, but this one is definitely different from the rest. It’s, well, how do I put this… This is the most violent, bloody, Lego specimen of badassery that I’ve seen in a long time. It’s like the most violent 2:25 clip you’ve ever watched, and it’s all played out in Lego minifigs. It’s enough to twist your brain into a pretzel.

It’s not every day you get the chance to see a Lego Captain America rip off a dude’s arm and beat him with it. This video was created by Forrest Fire Films. According to YouTube, Forrest says, “I’m Forrest and I make videos using Legos and my friends. The Legos are nicer to me.”

I don’t know what his inspiration for making this was, other than the fact that Lego announced they are creating a line of Marvel characters which will hit stores right before The Avengers movie is released this summer. Forrest, you’ve got some mad video and editing skills. I mean, really. If you like this, be sure to check out his YouTube channel because there’s all kinds of gory goodies in there. I’m not putting a NSFW on this post, but if you are watching it at work, at least turn the volume down on your speakers because you’re in for some serious gunfire, blood and guts. #justsayin

Since we love music and gaming, it’s really no surprise that we’ve written about a lot of different kinds of headphones on Bit Rebels over the years. My favorite ones, until today, are the Princess Leia Hair Headphone Covers that we featured about a month ago. She creates all kind of custom art for headphones, and you can view her entire collection in her Etsy store. She accepts custom orders, so if you’d like to have this same design in a different color, or a different design altogether, she can make it for you! Since each pair is painted by hand, no two are the exactly the same. These sell for about $27, which is a small price to pay to own the coolest headphones on the block.

The secret to eternal life has been searched for as long as humans have walked the earth. The interesting part is that while we search for it, our good hygiene and new medications have enabled our lifespan to become longer and longer. Just a couple of hundred years ago, the average lifespan was about 45 years for women and slightly less for men (Life Expectency Chart Through History). In 2012, we’re looking at ages almost doubled compared to that. So what is the secret to eternal life? Is it in our food, in our hygiene or is it entirely dictated by our DNA or environment? Well, the final word has not been set in stone yet when it comes to this, but it’s clear is that it is a mix of these things.

Some people say that it has all to do with how much we cling to life and enjoy it. Even though this might not seem very likely to some people, it has been proven that you live longer if you stay happy. It is especially apparent when you listen to Kathleen “Kit” Connell, a 100-year-old gamer who has found her Nintendo DS to be her fountain of youth. She often finds herself playing it until 10:00 pm, and then she reluctantly agrees to go to bed.

In this video, she explains why she thinks her Nintendo will give even the most seasoned gamer a life full of entertainment. She praises the use of Nintendo to the point where she encourages all parents to basically get their kids one of these mobile devices. She also says that she thinks that devices like Nintendo will completely replace textbooks in schools around the world. She has managed to take control of her memory loss once again and can sport herself with the fact that through her gaming, she’s managed to bring her mental age down to 64 through her favorite game “Brain Age.” This is definitely inspiring, and it’s a great testament that gaming isn’t all bad. It just depends on what games you play.

Pink is my favorite color. Regardless of what it is, if there is ever a possibility to buy it in pink, I do. I even have a pink tool kit. It’s complete with everything I need to do minor repairs, and everything is pink, even the hammer and the tape measure. You can see a picture of it here. So, when I saw this pink pearl Nintendo 3DS which will go on sale next week, you know I got super excited.

It’s being released in honor of Valentine’s Day, and I think it would make a great gift for any geeky gamer girl. It comes as a standalone system (it’s not part of a bundle), which is great. Of course, it’s a limited edition, so who knows how hard they’ll be to get.

It comes with all kind of features like a built-in camera, and an adorable virtual pet. It will sell for $170. Just keep in mind, this is not a replacement for flowers and candy. Think of it as an add-on. For girls like me, it would surely become a “never leave home without it” gadget we’d toss in our handbag each day. There’s only one problem. If you give your girl this for Valentine’s Day, she might not be as interested in spending the evening with you. I mean, can you compete with this? When I saw this creative build, I instantly fell in love with it. SillySparrowness is soooo right when she says, “A woman isn’t complete without her own TARDIS.” Upon reading that statement, I instantly fell into a world of imagination and creative inspiration. How cool would it be to have a real TARDIS? I really can’t think of anything that would be more fun to own than that!

What this girl has managed to build is insanely impressive. She made this TARDIS from scratch, and the video below is worth every second. It all makes me want to stop what I’m doing to go watch a few old Doctor Who episodes.

She was even clever enough to document the entire process so if you are feeling inspired by this, you could conceivably make your own also. She posted her complete build diary for you to enjoy also. I wonder if it opens up to a huge room that leads to space and time travel with infinite possibilities? Okay, maybe not, but I want one anyway. One of the best parts is that it’s portable so you could take it just about anywhere. Can you imagine driving down the highway with this badboy strapped to the hood?
